Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular Physiotherapy

What is Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)?

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is a specialized form of physiotherapy that uses targeted exercises and techniques to treat dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems. These issues often occur due to inner ear disorders, head injuries, migraines, or neurological conditions.

Why Might You Need Vestibular Rehabilitation?

You may benefit from VRT if you experience:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

  • Meniere’s disease

  • Concussion or post-concussion syndrome

  • Migraine-related dizziness

  • Cervicogenic vertigo

  • Tension-type headaches

  • Stroke or traumatic brain injury

  • Frequent imbalance or increased fall risk

👉 These conditions can disrupt daily life, but vestibular therapy helps retrain your brain and body to restore balance and stability.

Our physiotherapists perform a detailed assessment to identify the root cause of your dizziness or imbalance, then create a tailored therapy plan. Treatments may include:

  • Balance retraining exercises

  • Eye movement & gaze stabilization training (VOR therapy)

  • Epley / Semont maneuver for BPPV

  • Vestibular “clock” and orientation training

  • Memory & brain stimulation exercises

  • Hands-on therapy for neck and muscle tension

  • Stretching & strengthening programs

How Long Does Vestibular Therapy Take?

  • Many patients improve within 6–7 weekly sessions.

  • Some may require only 1–2 sessions, while others need ongoing care.

  • Home exercises are usually prescribed to speed up recovery.

💡 Good to Know: A physician referral is not required, and services are covered under most extended health plans.
